Short Biography
Tom has an Environmental background, obtaining a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Management from Sheffield Hallam University in 2005. After graduation Tom joined a business/project development consultancy as Project Manager to deliver a number of UK and European funding based projects, including large multi-national collaborative projects supporting the environmental research and technology sectors.
As sole national representative for a number of European funding instruments in environmental research, conservation/biodiversity sectors Tom was involved in providing expert consultancy for UK organisations applying for EC funding, in particular FP7 and LIFE+. His role included assisting applicants with their project ideas and guiding them to the appropriate European or UK funding available, pre-screening FP7 and all UK LIFE+ submissions for technical coherence, financial eligibility and fit to the funds. Tom’s work included presenting and awareness raising activity for EU funding at conferences, events and meetings in the UK and Europe.
Whilst in this role Tom has gained a broad knowledge of European funding opportunities, but specifically he operated as sole national representative on behalf of Defra for the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme (Environment and Food, Agriculture, Fisheries and Biotechnology) and the LIFE+ Programme.
Tom has project managed multiple environment research and technology sector projects varying in size and scope, on behalf of the UK public sector and the European Commission.
Tom is a qualified PRINCE2 Practitioner.
