Short Biography

Simon’s academic background is in Geology, specialising in Hydrogeology. He studied water resources,engineering geology and structural geology, and carried out an independent mapping project in the Cantabrian Mountains, Spain.

For his Master’s degree, Simon focused on the following: surface water interactions; hydraulic properties; organic and inorganic water contamination; and borehole design, construction and maintenance. His thesis was entitled: Modelling the hydrological cycle of a semi-arid alluvial valley in Northeast Brazil. Since then Simon has gained experience in water and sanitation as a volunteer in Ghana with Ashanti Development. As a Senior Hydrogeologist with WYG Ireland, he was involved in groundwater supply and source protection projects, Environmental Impact Assessments and long term monitoring of quarries, groundwater dependent ecosystems and special areas of conservation.
