Short Biography

Sam has over ten years postgraduate experience in geology. In 2002, Sam gained a PhD for research on post-depositional changes (diagenesis) in sediments and sedimentary rocks. He then went on to spend three years working in the petroleum industry, where much of his work involved determining the controls on the porosity and permeability of reservoir rocks.

In 2007 he completed an MSc in Environmental Hydrogeology. Since joining JBA in October 2007, Sam has worked as a hydrogeologist on a wide variety of projects, including groundwater resource studies, wetland projects, flooding studies (groundwater flooding and seepage through flood embankments), contaminated land risk assessments, and Environmental Impact Assessments. He has helped to develop water level management plans for wetland nature reserves, including peat bogs, and has also carried out condition assessments on geological Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
