Short Biography
Helen has 11 years’ experience in managing research projects for a range of clients including government agencies, local government and other external bodies as well as research funded by UK research councils and the European Commission.
Helen has experience in both physical geography and social science research providing her with a wide range of research skills. She has focused on social science for the last 7 years and has substantial expertise in qualitative and quantitative data analysis and interpretation (including workshops, focus groups, questionnaires and interviews).
Helen joined JBA in 2006 having completed a PhD in 2001 and working
for Staffordshire University and Lancaster University as a Research Associate. Research fields
include spatial planning for natural hazards and technological risks, environmental justice
issues, social aspects of flooding and social and technological aspects of sustainable energy.
Helen is an experienced project manager and since joining JBA she has managed a number of projects for the Environment Agency and local planning authorities. Helen has recently delivered a series of prestigious projects as part of the Thames Estuary 2100 (TE2100) Strategy and is currently applying the knowledge and experience gained to project work within the Humber Estuary as part of the Humber Flood Risk Management Strategy. She is highly experienced in flood risk management, particularly the social aspects. She also has substantial expertise in policy and strategy development and the communication of such information to local government and the Environment Agency.
