| Visualisation |
To communicate changes in the landscape such as development or responses to Climate Change visualisation techniques provide ‘real’ impressions on how particular places might be affected. The visual form of communication is proven to be more efficiently processed and absorbed than textural, numerical or even diagrammatic data (references Tufte 1992).
Visualisation techniques can be classified in two dimensions, static or dynamic and analogue or digital (Lange 2000). Static visualisations represent only a single view point, dynamic allow the viewpoint to change. Analogue refers to traditional manual techniques such as sketches, paintings and physical models whilst digital refers to the use of computing power and programmes as tools to create images.
Choosing the right form of visualisation is an important decision in determining the success or otherwise of conveying effectively relevant information.
The development of digital techniques in recent years and now with the marrying of these to quantitative landscape information through GIS, provides great opportunities for stakeholders to be participants in decisions and choices which shape their landscape and future.
The merger of Maslen Environmental with JBA has enabled the skill sets associated with visual impressions, landscape impacts, GIS and digital programming and manipulation techniques to be brought together. Maslens have been involved in landscape assessment and the art of presenting client schemes through all types of visualisation technique for nearly twenty years.

| Land Restoration |
We bring specialist skills to
restore despoiled sites and also to mitigate for planned development
disturbance. Our portfolio includes derelict minerals sites,
coalfield sites, landfill site planning and management, proposals
for new mineral sites and water and sewer pipeline projects.

| Environmental Performance |
We believe climate change will
affect everyone and increasingly we will all need to help mitigate
the
impacts and adapt to change. We have skills and a portfolio
of work specifically related to sustainable construction, benchmarking
and improving the environmental performance of buildings and
option appraisals for renewable energy investments. We also
undertake
training for businesses on improving aspects of their environmental
performance.

| External Funding |
We work very successfully on behalf
of a number of partnerships and organisations raising funds for
project activities. Our work often involves taking initial ideas
and developing these into project activities and project plans.
We prepare and present business cases and submit applications
on behalf of our clients. Our successes include EU LIFE and Interreg
projects, HLF, LFTC, ERDF, SRB, RDA and ODPM funded work. (And
we are fully aware of the abundance of acronyms!)

| Project Management |
Maslen Environmental’s
team have a wealth of project management experience, including
project programming and financial management. We have managed
multidisciplinary teams during the design and construction
process for a range of landscape and building projects. Project
management support has also been provided to a number of government
agencies and local authorities on large scale and complex projects
involving numerous stakeholders with varied and often conflicting
interests.

|
| Stakeholder
Engagement |
Our
experience includes facilitating meetings, workshops and training
events, bringing together a wide range of technical experts
and diverse interest groups. Our aim is to ensure that all
interest groups are successfully engaged in the planning and
development of projects.

|
| Public Consultation |
We
have carried out a number of public and stakeholder consultations
as part of our project work. Most recently, having been commissioned
to carry out a landscape and visual assessment for an urban
wind turbine development, we were appointed to prepare a public
consultation roadshow to inform the public of the proposal
before a planning application was submitted. The content, layout
and graphic design of all consultation material was carried
out in house. Other public exhibitions and consultations have
related to a visitors centre and to nature conservation, public
recreation, habitat creation and waste management projects.
